CONCERNED RESIDENTS OF SKYE/LANGWARRIN

A New application has been lodged for a Garbage Tip by Skye Environmental Services P/L at a site in Skye.

This proposal will have grave effects on all landowners in the surrounding areas.

  • In both the above and underground water. This area is a run off basin for a large area of Skye/Langwarrin. Much of the water from here ends up in the Patterson river and in the underground water table.

  • Offensive smells, given the site position a northerly wind on a hot day will blow offensive smells right across the residential Langwarrin area.
    •
  • An increase in roadside pollution as refuse falls from vehicles or is blown on windy days from the site. This will increase the roadside pollution along Ballarto road, Potts Road, Valley Road, Mcclelland Drive, Mccormicks Road, Taylors Road and many other roads in the area.

  • An increase in traffic will result in from this application along Ballarto road, Potts Road, Valley Road, Mcclelland Drive, Mccormicks Road, Taylors Road and many other roads in the area. In particular Potts Road may have a huge increase in traffic and as the residents must pay at least half of the cost to seal the road in effect they are subsidising the rest of the Frankston residents and other councils.

    Rumours abound that Valley Road may also be set up as an access to the tip so Potts & Valley Roads will be major thoroughfares 7 days a week particularly on weekends. Rubbish trucks may also use these roads at extended times of the day from 5am onwards

    The SKYE Primary school will experience a huge increase in passing trucks heading to the tip. Increasing Noise & Air pollution but also the likelyhood of accidents.

  • Along with the traffic noise there will also be site noise generated by vehicles moving refuse. As the application has asked for 24Hr access this noise pollution could be up to 24 HOURS A DAY

  • General lowering of property values.

    Tip to commence possibly within the next 2 years.

    Tip may be in service for over 20 years.

    Many other councils may use the tip, there by increasing all of the detrimental effects.

    Increased Fire Hazard

    Increase in scavenger bird and rat populations

    Not in fitting with the Green belt nature of Skye and Langwarrin

    Some properties may be deemed as a buffer for the tip which reduces their value and use

    The close proximity of the site to the residential areas of Langwarrin & Carrum Downs

    This application may have been at this time of year in the hope that it will not generate any objections. Once it has been passed by the council, it will then go to Melbourne Water and if then passed it will go to the EPA. Do not rely on Frankston Council to object to this proposal, the current tip is closed and they will be looking for options.

    In addition to make a tip more cost effective councils will sell access rights to other councils which means that with many tips in the surrounding areas closing or near full, this site could be the major tip site for the bulk of the whole Peninsula, Cranbourne and Berwick areas.

    Therefore it is imperative that you write your objections into the EPA NOW ! Once it has passed the Council our chances of stopping this environmental nightmare will be greatly limited.

    Write your own letter using some of the points outlined on the previous page, remember the Council are concerned with residential issues, so keep within those borders. Also remember to keep a copy of the letter you have sent in if possible.

    I object to the application (01026) of a tip site in Skye based on the environmental damage it will do to the area. This area is supposed to be a Green belt and here we are proposing to put a tip in the middle of it. It will damage the ecological nature of the whole area and will no doubt do untold damage to the waterways and underground water tables in the direct vicinity.

    In these times of enlightened environmental issues it would be devastating to think that a council committed to the protection of the environment would even give this application more than a cursory glance and then disregard it as environmental vandalism.

    I am writing to the Council to register my objection to the proposed tip application (01026) in the Skye-Langwarrin area. This proposal will do great harm to environmental ambience of the area and is not in keeping with the new council planning scheme for the area. The new scheme seeks to retain the green wedge outlook for this sensitive area and as a local citizen am in agreement with its focus. I cannot however see how the green outlook can be enhanced by placing a garbage tip in the middle of it

    This tip will most certainly further damage the existing waterways emanating from the current site. It will also severely damage the underground water table in the local area which poses much wider environmental issues. Along with air pollution over a large residential population and increases in refuse litter I fail to see how this proposal could ever be considered as environmentally sound.
